£60.00
Course Date:Â Tuesday, 10th November 2026
Time of Course: 10am to 1pm or 2pm to 5pm
Cost: £60 to include refreshments plus materials charge
By the end of the session, you can expect to have created one or two decorations/ornaments depending on the complexity of the designs you choose. Kate will have a variety of designs ready prepared for you, or you are more than welcome to design your own.
After selection from a wide range of supplied transparent, textured, patterned and opaque glass, each stage of this traditional and heritage process will be explained and demonstrated so that you can then cut, shape and join your pieces of stained glass together.
The class is limited to a maximum of 6 students to ensure optimal time for expert tuition as well as allowing each participant individual access to tools. Please note that there is a materials charge of £20 payable direct to your tutor.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. All tools, materials and safety equipment will be provided. However, due to the nature of the craft, please can you ensure you are wearing closed shoes (no sandals, crocs or sling-backs) and that long hair is tied back. If you wear reading glasses, it is also advisable to bring these for the close detail work. For those with arthritic or painful hands or wrists, Kate has alternative glass cutters. If you feel you might want to use these, please let us know in advance.
As the soldering process does involve lead based products, it is not advisable for pregnant women to attend and children between the ages of 16 and 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Kate Lavender is a professional glass artist with over 30 years of experience working in both the Tiffany copper foiling and heritage lead light techniques. Her work blends traditional skills and design with a contemporary twist and novel display methods. In 2025 Kate featured on the BBC TV programme ‘Make It At Market’ (available on BBC iPlayer, Season 3, episode 6). This has led Kate to expand her business and sells her work both nationally and internationally via her website; and has created a number of bespoke pieces for residential properties both locally and in the south of England.
Homemade refreshments are available throughout the session.
If we are fully booked please get in touch to be put on a waiting list or find out about further dates available.
